I didn’t know this thing even existed… but I heard about it from my podcast cohost @DTamScott and found it on Amazon for $6.53 delivered. (Wow.) Anyway, this is cool — it measures the amount of water present in the brake fluid. As you probably know, water is the enemy of brake fluid, because it’s what rusts/corrodes/ruins your brake components. I measured all the cars and the results are in the second slide… so cool. MOST of them have water levels proportional to the amount of time since the last fluid swap. Always recommended is 2 years — and I’m late on most of the cars. Most surprising is the e-Golf — 5 years later and zero water in the fluid. Least surprising is the Cabby — critical (>4% water) after 12.8 years. I guess I’ll be doing some brake-fluid flushes this month. Also: the Rover has no reading because it has no fluid to measure. It all leaked out onto my (painted) floor.
