It’s a 22-foot long, 2-seat Cadillac roadster with a V-16 and a one of one body by Hartmann in Switzerland. The playboy owner liked the 1936 Delahaye 135 Figoni et Falaschi teardrops, but wanted something a little bigger. I know the guys who did the bright work for the restoration and they said a 4’x8’ sheet of plywood would fit in the trunk—if it opened. However, it doesn’t!! Just insane. Why didn’t it win? Lots of reasons—I heard the restoration was good enough to win its class but not the show, and it did win its class—but I suspect that when blown up to such monumental proportions, a bit of the elegance the judges value so highly, fades away. It took a ton of work from some very talented people but we managed to cut away all the fat and leave only what really matters to me. I chose the Delta because it’s the car that made me fall in love with cars in the first place. I was 7 years old. My father had a beautiful Giallo Ginestra. I don’t know why but it made me feel special. Those memories are made of smells, of that soft Alcantara touch, of confused noises. This is what I always look for in a car. This is what I can offer.
